Spying on Spotted Salamanders

Heading out to a vernal pool to see yellow-spotted salamander is definitely something to put on your to-do list!  In fact, watching any animal in its natural environment can be a lot of fun.  Just remember, not to bring the animals back to your house.

To learn more about vernal pools visit the Vernal Pool Association. Leo P. Kenney of  The Vernal Pool Association provided many of the copyrighted photographs for these pages. We extend our gratitude to Leo and the Vernal Pool Association. These photographs may not be used without his permission.

It is very important to not take animals away from their homes. These animals are dependant upon seasonal changes, their parents, peers, other animals, and plants in their natural environment to be able to survive.  Leaving animals in their home allows them to be healthy and reproduce. It also gives you and others the opportunity to visit them again.
